2nd Annual Brooklyn Cranskgiving

Cranksgiving is coming back to Brooklyn this year! Cranskgiving is an alley cat style bike "race" that doubles as a food drive. In Brooklyn, the Cranksgiving team has decided to place a strong emphasis on fresh foods. The ride's founder, Cassandra Brooklyn, worked in community development for many years, integrating healthy foods into undeserved communities across the city and particularly in central Brooklyn. Noticing the trend of food pantries shifting toward distributing fresh produce and whole foods and allowing clients to chose their own fresh foods at "client choice"-style pantries instead of merely picking up a bag of highly-processed boxed and canned food, Cassandra connected with these pantries and revamped the Brooklyn Cranksgiving donations to emphasize fresh produce items that were in high demand at the pantries. At the 2016 inaugural ride, 120 riders collected hundreds of pounds of collard greens, kale, spinach, sweet potatoes, apples, and oranges.
